There’s a new shopping app in town! Just released last Friday, Shopular, created by two former shopkick engineers, is already stirring things up – in a good way.
I have to say, I’m really liking Shopular. The app collects and curates lists of store sales and coupons I can take advantage of at my local mall. The best part is the sleek user interface, which puts everything at my fingertips and makes it really easy to plan my shopping trips around store sales and my SnipSnapped
coupons.
I’m hearing a lot of buzz that categorizes Shopular is a couponing app but, after my initial interaction with it, I’ve decided it’s more a shopping circular app (which does support a limited number of coupons).
Here’s how it works: Shopular is location aware and Facebook integrated, in order to display customized group circulars for local malls and big box retailers in your area. Once you choose your mall, you’ll get a screen that looks like this:
Here I can see all the sales that are going on at my mall. Each little circular square contains either a promotion alert or an actual coupon. Some coupons are really cool, like this coupon for a free item (up to $13 value) at Bath & Body Works with a $10 purchase.
However, many “coupons” are actually just links to retailers’ websites, where you can retrieve promo codes that should work at the register. And those coupons that are actually contained in the app don’t have scanable, mobile-optimized bar codes.
I will definitely be using Shopular to keep ahead of store sales and match promos with my coupons. I’m taking the app on a test run tonight to experience first-hand its functionality and coupon redemption process. What I love is that Shopular does almost all the work for me – I can determine the best place to shop for what’s on my list, simply by consulting what’s on sale in the app. And I can get live updates on how other Shopular users are stacking coupons and combining deals. I can’t wait to take this baby for a spin on my next shopping adventure!
