The Best, Most Affordable Workout Shorts for Spring

Happy Monday, everyone!Screen Shot 2013-05-06 at 12.45.29 PM

I’ve been buying a lot of bright spring clothes lately, because it’s finally getting warm out! And I have have a ton of mobile coupons in my savings arsenal. Last week, I went to Target and picked up some amazing steals with ten dollars worth of coupons on my smartphone. This weekend, I headed to Old Navy, because I SnipSnapped this 20% off total purchase coupon that I just had to use for stocking up on more spring essentials.

As soon as I walked into Old Navy, I knew exactly what I wanted to buy with my coupon: these Active by Old Navy 3″ running shorts. I’ve been running a long time, and I’ve tested out heaps of running shorts. After lots of shopping and shoddy runs with shorts either falling off or riding up my butt, I’ve decided it’s extremely difficult to find a pair that’s affordable, cute, comfortable, and functional (at the same time). I’ve been using mobile coupons to score great, super-cheap workout gear at Old Navy for a while and, once I got hooked on Old Navy shorts, I vowed to stop spending money on expensive brands to get the job done.

If you think you need to drop $200 at lululemon to look cute while getting fit for this year’s bikini season, you’re wrong in a really good way. These Old Navy shorts are usually $15, but if you SnipSnap this coupon, you can save 20% in store and online. (Heads up: some colors are cheaper online than in stores, so you’ll save more money with the coupon + score free shipping and returns if you spend at least 50 bucks.) I’m in love with the fabric and design of these babies: the cut makes your legs look long and sleek, while the fabric is soft and slinky so you won’t experience any chafing or discomfort during long, sweaty workouts. Bonus: the color selection is amazing (I honestly believe bright hues make me work out harder and longer, but maybe that’s just me).

Want to get in on the great Old Navy savings? Today is your last day to save 20% on fashion and great workout gear. Get in on this deal and let me know which color(s) running shorts you decided to buy. I spent a lot of time deciding between these two colors last Friday night; I bought the black/hot pink pair, but I’m tempted to go buy the hot pink pair today anyway!

Your Cheap Weekend: How One Girl Saved $60 on Food, Fashion, and Fun, Sat-Sun

Happy Monday, everyone! I’m really into making lists and, recently, I’m really interested in making lists about all the simple ways I save money + the environment. I save a ton of money on the weekends! Here are just a few of the ways I saved this past Saturday-Sunday:Screen Shot 2013-04-29 at 1.22.58 PM

1. Hoarded free Otis Spunkmeyer Muffins, Nature Valley bars, bananas, and bottled water at Saturday’s road race. (Hey! The leftovers were just going to get thrown away!) Ate hoarded food over the weekend for breakfasts/lunches instead of buying more food and creating more waste.

2. Ran 4 miles to grandmother’s house for dinner instead of driving. Carpooled home with Screen Shot 2013-04-29 at 1.23.45 PMmy mother. Scored GIANT plate of turkey/stuffing/veggie leftovers. Will eat leftovers for dinner through Tuesday.

3. Donated a giant trash bag of super old but still very functional clothes (in good condition!) to charity.

4. SnipSnapped a coupon for $10 off any purchase at DSW. I desperately needed new running socks and so I scored this 6-pack of adidas premium running sucks (they are super comfy!) for just $7 (down from $17).Screen Shot 2013-04-29 at 1.13.14 PM

5. Shopped Old Navy online and scored free shipping, free returns, sale prices, plus 20% off my entire purchase with code ONSAVE20 at check out (this code is good until 5/6!) I saved well over thirty dollars on a pretty substantial addition to my spring wardrobe (I purchased: one pair of skinny jeans, two tank tops, one blouse, and one adorable, lavender sundress for just about $90).

All in all, I saved probably $60 in food/clothing costs and created less waste (I eat every last bite of free food that comes my way and the gas I save by using my training runs to actually get somewhere does add up).

Screen Shot 2013-04-24 at 1.32.29 PMWhenever I think about affordable spring clothing, Old Navy is one of the first stores that, well, springs to mind. I can always, always stock up on essentials like cut offs and khaki shorts at Old Navy; for the low price, everything at Old Navy is well-made and reliably sized (which makes trying things on less traumatic and ordering online a cinch). I’m ready to do an Old Navy haul because I need a new pair of The Rockstar Super Skinny jeans (seriously, these are the best skinny jeans EVER). I’m hoping Screen Shot 2013-04-24 at 1.28.59 PMto shop a little tonight at an Old Navy store, so I SnipSnapped this coupon for $15 off my $75 purchase. But, if I can’t make it to the mall, I’m taking advantage of Old Navy’s 15% off online promo code.

What else is on my radar? I’m obsessed with Old Navy swimwear and I need a new bikini this year. I’m really impressed with the affordability and color selection of Old Navy’s mix and match swimwear.
